BEST/BBALL Camp, etc.   Parents, Just wanted to put out another reminder of all the opportunities related to basketball this summer, and encourage you to visit the website, and have your son attend the BEST shooting camp, school camp, and summer workouts here at the high school. There are a variety of things that will help your son improve; please take advantage of the opportunities provided. We appreciate the chance to help your son improve, as this improves our basketball program here at Lewis Central. Thanks, Coach Miller
BEST Shooting Camp   Parents, The flyer for the BEST Shooting Camp is up on the website. PLEASE strongly consider having your son attend this camp. It is a great value for the instruction and guidance your son will receive in relation to other camps outside of Lewis Central. The camp provides many drills and instruction for shooting the basketball. The form is available on the website. Thanks, Coach Miller

Letter from Coach Miller

Parents,

I am writing to you in regard to the Junior Titan Basketball Program we have started here at Lewis Central. This will be my eleventh season here at Lewis Central, and I feel it is important we all work together to make our program the best it can be. How is this accomplished? I believe all boys playing basketball for Lewis Central should be working on the same skills and fundamentals taught at the high school level. This can only be accomplished through hard work and dedication from a number of volunteers. We have a program in place, and many of you have signed your son up for the upcoming season. I am asking you to visit our website: http://www.titanbasketball.org/ to find information pertaining to the upcoming season.

It is important we get an accurate count of the number of boys we are going to have participating in order to secure our spot in leagues, tournaments, etc. In past years, we have hosted our own league here at L.C., but it has become too difficult for me personally to continue to coach at the varsity level and maintain a Sunday league here at Lewis Central. We will still have teams participating in and around the Council Bluffs/Metro area in leagues and tournaments appropriate to each player's ability level.  It is important to me that we provide opportunities for all skill levels that will challenge each player, and provide a chance for improvement.

The exciting thing for me as the varsity coach is the opportunity to work with youth coaches and players in the teaching and learning of our varsity system all the way down to 1st grade. It is our hope to develop continuity throughout our program which will improve the level of play for all our athletes. This is not a select program, but a program that aims to raise the level of basketball played here at Lewis Central. It will be competitive, and we will work to make the program successful on all levels. The skills and philosophy taught will be coming from our varsity staff in hopes of educating and preparing our boys for high school basketball. All teams will be chosen by the varsity staff based on where your son is at this point in time in regard to his basketball skills. Coaches for all levels will also be chosen and appointed by the varsity staff. This is not an exact science, but we will do our best to put each player in a position to improve and work under the direction of coaches appointed by the varsity staff.

I am asking for your cooperation in the development of this program. As I stated earlier, it takes a lot of people willing to participate and work to that end. You will note there is a slight increase in cost to participate this season. We will only have one sign-up date this year, instead of two from previous seasons. For most players, it will only be an increase of $25; for others playing in the highly competitive division, it will be more of an increase. I am pleased to be able to present our kids with an opportunity to improve for a cost that is significantly cheaper than other area programs. If the cost is something that your family can not afford at this point in time, there are scholarships available to help defray the cost.  We have a sign-up date of October 17 from 6-8 PM at the high school. Hy-Vee has generously donated t-shirts and pizza for our opening night. I hope you will make every effort to sign-up on the 17th, as it will help us determine our numbers for the upcoming season.

I thank you in advance for your time and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Dan Miller
